All of the therapy sessions are completed through a HIPAA-compliant telehealth platform. Does the client(s) have access to stable internet? Are the client(s) able to use the computer and computer technology? Does the clients' computer, phone or other device have the ability to do video chatting or engage in other telehealth capabilities?

The things said in therapy are confidential and there are limits to confidentiality around safety. If your therapist believes you may be a harm others, end your life, OR that child abuse, elder abuse, or dependent adult abuse is occurring they are legally required to report this to the appropriate authorities. What is said in therapy is also private. In order to respect the clients' privacy, our therapists ask that their client(s) complete sessions in a room where they are by themselves. Does the client agree to this?

In order to receive services from our therapists, the client(s) have to be in the State of California during their therapy appointment(s). Does the client(s) agree that they will talk with their assigned therapist if they leave California, or reschedule their appointment(s), etc. if they are not in the state?

Sometimes, the location for privacy is in a person's car. We ask for people to not drive their car while in session, for safety reasons. If the client(s) are driving, their therapist will end the therapy session and cancel the appointment with a possible late cancellation fee. Does the client understand and agree to this?

Cancellation fees and no-show fees are the same price as the session fee (noted above). If the clients use insurance, their insurance does not cover this cost. So we like to strongly encourage clients to inform their therapist of their cancellation or need to reschedule at least 24 hours in advance of the cancellation. If you attend a session for 15 minutes or less, show up to an appointment more than 15 minutes after the appointment time, or don’t show up at all, these behaviors are subject to the late cancellation or no-show fee. Importantly, just like with the previous safety issues, there are limits to any use of cursing and curse words in the therapy relationship and whether used by the client and/or the therapist. Those limits are: we do NOT curse at one another or use epithets or slurs. If your therapist (e.g. Dr. Sheera) uses this approach, they will review this with you during your first session, if you both agree to working together. Does the client acknowledge that they understand this?

The goal for therapy with Own Your Mind Psychology Services and Consultation, Inc. is for the client to be in a space where they are comfortable ending therapy, have accomplished their therapy goals, and are well on the path towards living their best life. The power is in the clients' hands and they can choose when to begin, end, or slow down therapy. We ask our clients to discuss these choices with their therapist and to not ghost their therapist.
